Special Events

Dunwoody is pleased to welcome a variety of special events, from community festivals to athletic competitions. Our goal is to work with event sponsors and producers to help ensure that events that take place in our city are safe and successful, while minimizing the impact on the surrounding community. We hope that you will find these instructions helpful in planning and preparing to execute your special event.

Application Fee $50.00

Route Fee of $500.00 will be included in any festival that has a 5K/1K, Walk or Run.

Dunwoody 501C (3) fees are waived.

PERMIT PROCEDURE

STEP 1

If event is in a park, follow items listed directly below. If event is outside the park, go to Step 2. 

  • Create an account and reserve your date on the Parks Portal: https://secure.rec1.com/GA/dunwoody-ga/catalog
  • Choose your Park/Facility
  • Look for your date (if available, follow steps to reserve your event)
  • Follow the prompts.
  • Pay $300.00 to reserve the date. Deposit is applied to your balance.

 

STEP 2

Gather all listed paperwork to upload prior to applying for permit:

  • Site Plan - for events/festivals, please show the event layout including the location of any tents or other temporary structures, first aid facilities, waste and recycling facilities, restroom facilities, and parking facilities.
  • Overhead Shot of Brook Run Pavilion (outline your event on map, if applicable)
  • 5K Route Map (outline where your water/recycle stations will be located)
  • Certificate of Liability Insurance.  Please list City of Dunwoody as a certificate holder.
  • Notification to Neighbors. (Copy of the advertisement or receipt from the Dunwoody Crier)
  • Copy of your 501c(3) registered in the City of Dunwoody (if applicable).
  • Please Note: If you are planning a 5K, you are asked to use the City’s USATF certified 5K route

Fill out Special Event Permit/Sign Application listed near the bottom of the permit portal. 

Upload listed documents from above when submitting application in portal. 

ALL PAPERWORK MUST BE SUBMITTED AT THE SAME TIME

 

TENTS

We advise applicants to keep individual tents under 400 sf in area (with sides) or 700 sf in area (without sides). Should your tents exceed these sizes, you must apply with Dekalb County for approval. This process may take up to 6 weeks, which will extend the processing of the application.

 

ALCOHOL

Alcohol Permits are paid separately from the special event. Please call the Finance Department at 678-382-6700 for additional information.

 

CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE

The insurance requirement is a minimum of $300,000.00 personal injury per person to $1,000,000.00 maximum $100,000.00 property damage against all claims arising from permits issued pursuant to this article.

 

FOOD PREPARATION

Please comply with the DeKalb County Board of Health regulations available at the link listed on page three of the application. You may find it helpful to know that pursuant to section 290-5-14-.08, temporary food service, which lasts less than 120 hours, is exempt from many of the permitting and inspection requirements.

 

NOTICE OF NEIGHBORS

Notification of Neighbors (copy of published Ad, usually in the Dunwoody Crier). If event will close streets or right of ways, neighbors must be notified by posting flyer in the neighborhood or door to door.

 

FIREWORKS

If the event includes pyrotechnics or open flames, attach detailed plans. Once submitted, a routing sheet will be emailed to you to take to DeKalb County Fire Marshal for additional review.

 

FEES

PAYMENT IN FULL IS DUE 30 DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT OR RESERVATIONS MAY BE CANCELED.

AFTER EVENT

Submit the Special Event Sign Permit Deposit Affidavit within (7) days of the conclusion of event.
