Update: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The City of Dunwoody is closely monitoring information from the Centers for Disease Control and the Georgia Department of Public Health in regard to the outbreak of respiratory disease caused by COVID-19.

UPDATE (11/9/2020): The Dunwoody City Council unanimously extended an emergency ordinance that requires the use of masks or face coverings in public places and consenting businesses to limit the spread of COVID-19. It aligns with Governor Brian Kemp’s state orders.

“Masks are already required in Dunwoody City Hall, Municipal Court and other city-owned buildings, and most businesses in Dunwoody require customers to wear masks, as well,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “This new ordinance reaffirms our commitment to protect employees in customer-facing positions.”

The ordinance requires people to wear a facial covering or mask over the mouth and nose when physical distancing is difficult. Exemptions include the following:

  • Children under 10 years old
  • Inside a personal vehicle
  • While eating or drinking
  • Those with a medical condition that prevents masking
  • When outdoors and maintaining social distance

As off June 15, 2020, Dunwoody parks and park amenities are open.

Due to the current increase of Covid-19 infections in DeKalb County, the City of Dunwoody has put into place a moratorium on all permit application approvals for rentals and special events beginning August 1- December 31, 2020. The City will monitor current infection rates monthly and may lift the moratorium prior to December 31, 2020. Thank you for your patience during these challenging times.

Dunwoody City Hall: 

  • Access to city administrative offices is by appointment only to protect against the spread of COVID-19. Beginning June 29, 2020, limited City Hall staff will remain on site, but walk-up visitors will no longer be able to access administrative offices without a scheduled appointment. The City encourages all citizens to check this website for emails and phone numbers for all departments. If you are unsure about whom to contact, email communications@dunwoodyga.gov or call 678-382-6700. The majority of staff will continue to work remotely.
  • Police Service Representatives will remain on site 24/7 as they have throughout the pandemic. Anyone with a public safety issue may access them anytime through an intercom system on the front of City Hall. They’re also available by phone: 678-382-6919. For emergencies, please dial 911.
  • Dunwoody Municipal Court will continue to operate under state-approved guidelines on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only. Courtroom payment windows will be open during those same days. Court staff will not accept any walk up transactions on Monday or Fridays. All individuals attending Court must got through a temperature screening before admittance. All staff and citizens will be required to wear a mask covering at all times inside Court and City Hall. Courtroom seating capacity has been reduced from 132 to 22 seats to accommodate social distancing between all individuals. Attendance is restricted to only those individuals required to be in session. For questions about a case, email dunwoody.courts@dunwoodyga.gov.

DUNWOODY POLICE continue patrols and enforcement while taking precautions.

  1. To File a Police Report: Please call 9-1-1 to schedule an officer to come to you on a non-emergency basis inside City limits. Alternatively, you may come to police headquarters and use the intercom located at the main entrance to announce your request. The Police Service Representative on duty will dispatch an officer to meet with you in the parking lot.
  2. Copies of Police Reports or Open Records: All requests for copies of police reports (incident or accident) as well as all open records requests must be submitted online at: https://dunwoody.jjcbigideas.com/openrecords.
  3. Fingerprinting Services & Background Checks: All fingerprinting services - including those for alcohol pouring permits and solicitor permits - as well as Background Check services are by appointment only 678-382-6763 until further notice.
  4. Police Training Events, Community/Volunteer Programs and Classes: All training events, community programs, and classes, including our Citizens’ Police Academy, Bailiffs, Citizens on Patrol, and Ride Along programs, have been suspended until further notice. Dunwoody Gives Restaurants New Options for Outdoor Dining

On May 11, the Dunwoody City Council unanimously approved a resolution to allow restaurants to add or expand outdoor operations. The vote creates a special temporary permit to help restaurants meet social distancing requirements designed to protect against COVID-19. Click here to link to the permit application. Click here to read more details.

Penalties and interest delayed: The Dunwoody City Council approved a resolution on April 13 to delay penalties and interest on occupational taxes and business license payments until 90 days after the COVID-19 state of emergency is lifted. The city is also waiving the requirement for a notary on renewal applications for occupational tax and business licenses. Business owners need to follow up with a notarized application after the emergency has lapsed.

The State of Georgia has a COVID-19 hotline. If you believe that you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to the novel coronavirus, please contact your primary care doctor, an urgent care clinic, or your local federally qualified healthcare center. Please do not show up unannounced at an emergency room or health care facility.
