Residents and businesses are encouraged to shine lights as a show of support for all high school graduates on the evening of June 15.

Dunwoody, GA – June 10, 2020 – The City of Dunwoody is encouraging the community to “Light the Way” to celebrate the Class of 2020 on the evening of Monday, June 15, which is the night before Dunwoody High School’s virtual graduation ceremony.

“We have been trying to figure out an appropriate way for the City of Dunwoody to recognize this important milestone in the age of COVID-19,” said Dunwoody City Councilman Tom Lambert. “Since we can’t gather, ‘Light the Way’ gives everyone a chance to show support for all high school seniors graduating in these unprecedented times.”

Luminaries will light the way at Dunwoody City Hall, and the Dunwoody Police Department will use patrol lights and an electronic message board to pay tribute to seniors. Field lights will shine at Dunwoody parks, and scoreboards will signal “2020” at area DeKalb County schools.

The business community is supporting the effort, as well. Perimeter Mall, Twelve 24, Ravinia and the Terraces are making special plans to light up on June 15. The Concourse Office Park is also taking part. The King and Queen buildings will radiate in purple, which represents dignity, pride and success, as a way to honor all Georgia graduates.

Residents are asked to take part by turning on porch lights, lighting a luminary or coming up with another bright idea to lift up the Class of 2020.
