Dunwoody Municipal Court Resumes Holding Hearings on June 16
New safety protocols will include social distancing, mandatory masks and temperature checks.
Dunwoody, GA – June 10, 2020 – City of Dunwoody Municipal Court will resume holding hearings on June 16 under new safety protocols designed to guard against the spread of COVID-19. The court clerk’s office inside Dunwoody City Hall, 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays but will be closed to the public on Mondays and Fridays. On those two days, clerks will answer emails and phone calls remotely.
“When we had to put a halt to hearings for everyone’s protection back in March, the deputy clerks and I didn’t stop,” said Dunwoody Court Clerk Norlaundra Huntington. “We worked remotely to reschedule cases and notify the parties involved. We have a backload of cases now, so we’re expanding our hours and holding hearings three days a week instead of one-and-a-half days a week.”
New safety protocols will include social distancing, mandatory masks and temperature checks. Seating inside the courtroom at Dunwoody City Hall will be limited to provide six-feet of distance between parties. Masks and temperature checks will be required for defendants, attorneys and any other courtroom visitors.
Dunwoody Municipal Court has jurisdiction over violations of state law and local ordinances that occur within the city limits of Dunwoody. Defendants with cases that had to be rescheduled when court closed have been notified by mail of new arraignment dates and times. Anyone with questions can email the clerk’s office: dunwoody.courts@dunwoodyga.gov.
Dunwoody City Hall will continue to be open on Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon and will expand its hours when court is in session on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Most staff will continue to work remotely, and almost all questions and government service requests can still be handled online, over the phone, or through email to avoid an in-person visit. The city encourages citizens to reach out remotely before coming to City Hall. A comprehensive list of services and contact information is available here: www.dunwoodyga.gov/COVID19.
