Dunwoody temporarily closes gyms, studios and sports clubs

Gyms, studios and sports clubs in Dunwoody were added to an emergency ordinance that requires the temporary closure of restaurants due to COVID-19.

Dunwoody, GA – March 20, 2020 – During an emergency special called meeting tonight, the Dunwoody City Council voted unanimously to require the temporary closure of gyms, studios and sports clubs offering the use of exercise equipment, shared activity space or close contact sports. The decision is designed to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for employees and the public.

The closure order will take effect at 9 p.m. tonight and will last for 30 days, although it can be lifted by Council before that. The order can also be extended by Council, if needed.

Gyms, studios and sports clubs were added as an amendment to an emergency order passed on Wednesday that requires restaurants and businesses that sell food or beverages for consumption on premises to temporarily discontinue in-person dining. Those establishments are still allowed to offer delivery, drive-thru, curbside pickup or takeout instead.

During tonight’s meeting, the Council delayed a decision on the temporary closure of establishments offering massage, manicure, hairstyling, or personal grooming services in Dunwoody. The Council will take up the issue, again, during another emergency special called meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23 at 6 p.m. Monday’s agenda will be available here when it’s published: https://onbase.dunwoodyga.gov:8081/OnBaseAgendaOnline/
