Dunwoody Sustainable Heroes Announced
Solar CrowdSource and Su Ellis win corporate/individual awards, respectively, during the Dunwoody State of the City address.
Dunwoody, GA – April 15, 2019 – Dunwoody’s Sustainability Committee awarded the city’s annual corporate and individual Sustainable Hero Awards for 2018 to Solar CrowdSource for its successful Solarize Dunwoody campaign and to active Dunwoody volunteer Su Ellis for her initiation of projects throughout the city, including the Milkweed Project designed to inspire pollinator gardens and preserve monarch butterflies.
The awards were presented by Michael Cowan, chairman of the sustainability committee and executive director of the Dunwoody Nature Center at the City of Dunwoody’s State of the City Address held on Thursday night, April 11, at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia Hotel.
Founder Donald Moreland accepted on behalf of Solar CrowdSource provided technology and equipment that resulted in more than 50 residential installations of solar panels in Dunwoody, as well fostered efforts in surrounding cities. The program’s success also resulted in the donation of a 10KW array solar system to the Community Assistance Center, expected to save the non-profit organization more than $2,000 annually.
Master Gardener Su Ellis is a volunteer with the Dunwoody Nature Center, as well as the Dunwoody Woman’s Club, Dunwoody Garden Club, Spruill Center for the Arts. She has spearheaded many projects throughout the city, including initiatives to use only plants native to north Georgia at the Dunwoody Nature Center ensuring healthier and more sustainable gardens.
Nominations for the Sustainability Hero awards are solicited each year from the community’s businesses and residents.
