Dunwoody Trailway Bridge Creates New Connections

Dunwoody city officials cut the ribbon to officially open the new pedestrian bridge crossing Nancy Creek.

Dunwoody, GA – April 10, 2019 – A ribbon-cutting ceremony to open Dunwoody’s new pedestrian bridge over the north fork of Nancy Creek was held today. The 145-foot bridge connects Dunwoody’s Georgetown Community with Perimeter Center as part the Dunwoody Trailway.

“We are connecting the east with the west and residents with businesses,” said Dunwoody’s Mayor Denis Shortal, who thanked the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) and developers of Townsend at Perimeter Townhomes, which contributed right-of-way and construction costs.

“It takes both a strong residential community and a strong business community to make a good city, and this bridge serves as one more connection,” said Dunwoody Parks Director Brent Walker.

The bridge crosses the north fork of Nancy Creek near Old Georgetown Trail. It is a key element of the Trailway, which will eventually connect to Ashford Dunwoody Road and Perimeter Mall.

“Residents can ride their bikes from Brook Run Park to Perimeter Mall using the new bridge, along with our trails and street network,” explained Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton.

The total cost of the bridge, boardwalk ramps and walking trail on the Georgetown side of the bridge was $428,572. PCIDs contributed $200,000 of that for the project.

Dunwoody resident Marian Chase rode her bicycle to the ceremony with 19-month daughter Ellie in a bike stroller behind her. “The opening of this trail helps us make a circular loop on our rides,” she said. “I’m amazed at how Dunwoody is growing and flourishing, and I’m so happy about the many new developments and ideas.”
