City Of Dunwoody Explores Revision Of Ethics Ordinance

CITY OF DUNWOODY EXPLORES REVISION OF ETHICS ORDINANCE
Mayor and Council Approve 90 Day Moratorium on Accepting New Complaints,
Plan Examination of Existing Ordinance for Modifications and Improvements

Dunwoody, GA – January 16, 2013 – The Mayor and City Council of Dunwoody agreed to examine and revise the City’s current ethics ordinance and placed a 90-day moratorium on accepting or considering new ethics ordinance complaints.
The Mayor and City Council unanimously approved the 90-day moratorium resolution at its January 14, 2013 meeting. The approval came after thorough discussion of the deficiencies within the existing ethics ordinance.
“Our goal is to amend the ordinance to help provide a more orderly and easily manageable ethics complaint process,” said Mayor Mike Davis. “This by no means diminishes our commitment to ethical behavior and practices. It serves as a beneficial opportunity to review alternatives to the current procedure and establish a set of updated guidelines.”
During the 90 day moratorium, which is effective beginning January 14, 2013, the staff will craft a new ethics ordinance for Council consideration.
Ethics complaints submitted during the moratorium will not be accepted by the City Clerk nor adjudicated or discussed by the current Ethics Board. However, once the moratorium is lifted, all ethics claims (including claims occurring during the moratorium) will be heard under a revised ordinance. Any ethics claims prior to 5 p.m. on January 14, but not yet adjudicated will be resolved utilizing the existing ordinance.
