Court Order Mandates Removal of LED Sign Face on Billboard in Dunwoody

A recent summary judgment from the Georgia Court of Appeals called for the removal of the LED sign face on the billboard located at North Peachtree Road and Interstate 285 in Dunwoody.

Dunwoody, GA July 15, 2016 – A recent summary judgment from the Georgia Court of Appeals called for the removal of the LED sign face on the billboard located at North Peachtree Road and Interstate 285 in Dunwoody.

The six-plus-year court case between Olympus Media, the billboard’s owner, and the City of Dunwoody has been resolved and the LED sign face removed from the billboard thanks in part to a judge’s order and the denial by the Georgia State Supreme Court of the company’s appeal.

The ruling states Olympus Media must return the billboard to a static condition at its current location, as it was prior to the LED sign face installation.

In its summary judgment, the Georgia Court of Appeals found “that the replacement of the prior mostly static billboard with a full LED sign face does not comport with the Consent Order” (previously issued by DeKalb County before Dunwoody became incorporated.)

“We are pleased with the court’s ruling,” said Dunwoody Mayor Denis Shortal. “Our goal is to protect the interests of our residents. Large LED billboards, located anywhere within our city, do not reflect the character of Dunwoody nor the wishes of our citizens.”
