Twice-a-week garbage collection service ends July 3
DECATUR, Ga. – The DeKalb County Sanitation Division announces the countywide implementation of one-day-a-week sanitation collection service. Effective the week of July 6, all single-family residential customers within the Sanitation Division’s service areas will receive same-day garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings recycling collection.
“This historic service change will be instrumental in ensuring greater operational efficiencies and fiscal responsibility within the Sanitation Division,” said DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May.
The County’s twice-a-week garbage collection service was implemented in 1937. In 1991, once-a-week yard trimmings recycling collection was added to the Sanitation Division’s collection service offering, and once-aweek single-stream recycling collection was added in 2005.
The 2015 Independence Day holiday collection schedule marks the end of the County’s twice-a-week garbage collection service for all single-family residential customers.
One-day-a-week sanitation collection service for single-family residential customers is as follows:
• Monday once-a-week customers will begin on Monday, July 6, 2015
• Tuesday once-a-week customers will begin on Tuesday, July 7, 2015
• Wednesday once-a-week customers will begin on Wednesday, July 8, 2015
• Thursday once-a-week customers will begin on Thursday, July 9, 2015
