Help Frame Dunwoody Priorities This April
Dunwoody invites residents and community members to help frame priorities at two Needs and Opportunities Workshops taking place on Thursday, April 23 (6:00-8:00 pm) and Saturday, April 25 (2:00-4:00 pm).
Dunwoody, GA – April 7, 2015 – The City of Dunwoody invites residents and community members to help “frame priorities” at two Needs and Opportunities Workshops taking place on Thursday, April 23 (6:00-8:00 pm) and Saturday, April 25 (2:00-4:00 pm). The workshops are the next round of public meetings and discussions for Shape Dunwoody, the five-year update of the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
The two separate workshops taking place this April will help identify the top priorities for the city to pursue in the next five years. The meetings will be highly interactive; and attendees are asked to come prepared to participate and share aspirations and priorities for Dunwoody’s future.
Shape Dunwoody Workshop 3
Thursday, April 23 (6:00-8:00pm)
Dunwoody Nature Center
5343 Roberts Drive, Dunwoody GA 30338
Shape Dunwoody Workshop 4
Saturday, April 25 (2:00-4:00pm)
Dunwoody Baptist Church
1445 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338 (Meeting Room J-200 of the Fitness Center Building, behind main church building)
These workshops will build on input collected at the two Shape Dunwoody Goals Workshops held earlier this year. The April workshops will:
- Provide opportunities for feedback on draft plan content developed in response to public input to date, specifically the overall vision statement and overarching goals for the city’s land use and development.
- Ask community members to help identify priority activities and initiatives that are important to the city’s future.
- Include small group discussions of the city’s unique areas and how the character of those areas should change or stay the same.
The Shape Dunwoody planning process will collect input over a five-month period to help inform the five-year update of the city’s Comprehensive Plan. Modifications to the plan will be made via public input as well as technical analysis completed by the planning team. The April workshops are the third and fourth meetings in a series of six that will be held through June to gather input for the plan update. Subsequent workshops will focus on the five-year work program and review of the draft plan update. Community members are also invited to join the Shape Dunwoody discussion online at www.connectdunwoody.com.
The updated plan will be reviewed by both the Atlanta Regional Commission and Department of Community Affairs prior to being considered for action by the City Council. Four additional public workshops are planned for the first half of 2015 and will be followed by public hearings.
The city’s existing Comprehensive Plan was developed in 2010, shortly after Dunwoody incorporated. The Comprehensive Plan is the preeminent legal document guiding future development in Dunwoody and provides the city with a roadmap on long-range policy direction for land use, transportation, economic development, housing, public facilities, inter-governmental agreements along with its natural and cultural resources. The update will address each of these planning areas while giving a special focus to economic development.
