Stolen Auto and Shoplifting Update

The Dunwoody Police Department has arrested Steven Jerome Jackson, age 51 of Stone Mountain.

The Dunwoody Police Department has arrested, Steven Jerome Jackson, age 51 of Stone Mountain.  Mr. Jackson is charged with Theft by Taking Auto (F), Theft by shoplifting (M) and Hit and Run (M).  Mr. Jackson was arrested overnight by detectives and is currently at the DeKalb County Jail.

At approximately 10:51 this morning, Dunwoody Police responded to a Shoplifting in Progress at the Walmart located at 4725 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. Store security advised that the suspect stole a television and left in a white Dodge Challenger.  Responding officers observed the vehicle traveling south on Ashford Dunwoody road near Perimeter Center North.  Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but the suspect increased his speed and refused to stop for uniformed officers.  Due to the suspects actions no pursuit was initiated.  
 
 The suspect continued traveling south on Ashford Dunwoody at a high rate of speed while disregarding traffic lights.  The suspect ran the red light at Ashford Dunwoody Road and Hammond Drive and collided with another vehicle.  The suspect lost control of his vehicle, struck a light pole and came to rest in the northbound lanes of Ashford Dunwoody Road.  A concerned citizen stopped at the accident at which time the suspect took the citizens vehicle and fled the scene.  No weapon was displayed during incident.
 
 The suspect was last seen traveling northbound on Ashford Dunwoody Road driving a 2009 Dodge Caravan (Tan) with GA tag (AHN5359).  If you see the suspect or vehicle, please call 911 immediately.  The suspect is to be considered DANGEROUS.
