Dunwoody Citizens' Police Academy

Participate in an up-close study of police operations!

The Dunwoody Police Department welcomes residents of Dunwoody, along with Dunwoody business owners to attend this free program designed to give participants the opportunity to learn about various functions of police work through classroom lectures, training scenarios and off-site tours of partner locations, such as ChatComm 911.

Our Goal

The Dunwoody Citizens' Police Academy is part of the community policing efforts of the Dunwoody Police Department. Each week, the class focuses on a specific division of the Police Department, giving students an overview of the Department's duties and responsibilities. Some of the units covered are:

  • Community Outreach
  • North Metro SWAT
  • ChatComm 9-1-1 Center
  • DeKalb County Jail
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Uniform Patrol
  • Gangs
  • Use of Force
  • Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.)
  • Uniform Patrol
  • Narcotics
  • Traffic Stops and DUI enforcement
  • Firearms Simulator

The 12-week program is open to Dunwoody residents and citizens who work in Dunwoody city limits, 21 years of age or older. Applicants must be willing to submit to a criminal history check and a driving record check prior to being accepted as a Citizen’s Police Academy student.

Applications must be submitted in person at Dunwoody Police Headquarters, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week or can be emailed to Officer Anwar Sillah at anwar.sillah@dunwoodyga.gov. All applications must be notarized. A copy of a current government issued photo ID must be submitted with your application.
