October Is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Dunwoody Police Department has created many resources to assist victims of Domestic Violence.

By City of Dunwoody

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The Dunwoody Police Department has created many resources to assist victims of Domestic Violence, and we want to make sure they know about the services available to them.

The Dunwoody Police Department's Domestic Assault Response Team (D.A.R.T.) is comprised of 8 officers and 1 supervisor. These sworn personnel have received 40 hours of training through the Peace Officer’s Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) for “Response to Domestic Violence”. Their responsibility is to follow-up with all victims of Domestic Violence and to ensure they have been notified of the available resources afforded to them. This team has conducted numerous follow-ups within the City, and they have received favorable responses from the victims.

In collaboration with several DeKalb County resources, the D.A.R.T. team will provide these necessary contacts to all victims of Domestic Violence. Some of these contacts include, but are not limited to, Victim Information and Notification Everyday (V.I.N.E.) the Ahimsa House, the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence and several others.

For more information, please visit our Domestic Violence web page. There, you will find our downloadable Domestic Violence Safety Planning pamphlet. This pamphlet provides safety tips and other useful information for you (or someone you may know) who suffers from Domestic Violence.

Feel free to stop by the department anytime for your free Domestic Violence Safety Planning pamphlet or to speak with one of our D.A.R.T. officers in person.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Sgt. A. Fondas at (678) 382-6910.
