Retirement of Deputy Chief David Sides, Agency Promotions

The Dunwoody Police Department announces the retirement of Deputy Chief David Sides and the promotion of many of our team members.

The Dunwoody Police Department announces the retirement of Deputy Chief David Sides and the promotion of many of our team members.


After 39 years of dedicated service at both the Marietta Police Department and then with the Dunwoody Police Department, Deputy Chief David Sides will retire on Wednesday April 10th 2019. Deputy Chief Sides was an instrumental member of the Dunwoody Police Department upon its formation in 2009 and has worked tirelessly in service of our great community.


“I am proud of the job David has done and thank him for his service to the citizens of the city of Dunwoody,” said DPD Chief Billy Grogan. “I am also thankful for his continued support and friendship. I can honestly say that Deputy Chief David Sides made my job easier and more enjoyable these last 10 years. He will be missed.” said Police Chief Billy Grogan.


With the retirement of Deputy Chief’s Sides, numerous staff members have been promoted.


Effective April 11th, 2019, the following promotions are made:


Major David Barnes is promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief.


Lieutenant Michael Carlson is promoted to the rank of Major and will be responsible for Administrative Service and the Criminal Investigations Division.


Sergeant Patrick Krieg is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and will be responsible for the Uniform Patrol Night Shifts.


Detective Anthony Stallings is promoted to the rank of Sergeant and will transfer to the Uniform Patrol Division.


“I look forward to the next decade of service by announcing a series of promotions which are indicative of our commitment to strong, professional, and dependable leadership.” said Police Chief Billy Grogan.


The department will host a retirement reception for Deputy Chief Sides, immediately followed by a promotional ceremony, on Tuesday April 9th, 2019, 1:00 PM, at the Dunwoody Police Department. We invite community members to attend.
