Homicide at Lacota Apartments

On Monday, June 18th, 2018 at 3:21 PM, the Dunwoody Police Department responded to 6682 Peachtree Industrial Blvd regarding a disturbance. The 911 caller advised that a male was hitting a female in front of his apartment.

The first Dunwoody Police Officer arrived minutes later and discovered the victim, 15-year-old Keaira Henderson, deceased in the hallway of 6682 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. The officer observed that Keaira Henderson appeared to have been stabbed multiple times.

At 3:29 PM, Keaira’s brother, Mr. Gavin Denzell Henderson, age 27, called 911 from 6806 Peachtree Industrial Blvd and advised that he wanted to turn himself in. Mr. Henderson was located by officers moments later and taken into custody without incident. A knife was recovered at the time of Mr. Henderson’s arrest that is believed to be the murder weapon.

Mr. Henderson was transported to the Dunwoody Police Department and subsequently charged with Aggravated Assault with the Intent to Murder, Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, and Felony Murder. Mr. Henderson was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

The motivation for the attack is still under investigation. All further inquiries regarding this matter should be referred to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.
