Officer Involved Shooting
On 01/20/2018 at approximately 07:45 AM, Dunwoody Police Officers responded to the Walmart parking lot located at 5025 Winters Chapel Road after being advised a suspect in an armed robbery,

On 01/20/2018 at approximately 07:45 AM, Dunwoody Police Officers responded to the Walmart parking lot located at 5025 Winters Chapel Road after being advised a suspect in an armed robbery, which occurred at the Kroger at 8465 Holcomb Bridge Road in Johns Creek, had pulled into the parking lot.
Officers were advised that the suspect, armed with a handgun, forced his way into a register at a Kroger in Johns Creek before fleeing the location. A witness to the armed robbery followed the suspect from the incident location to the parking lot at 5025 Winters Chapel Road where Dunwoody Police Officers and a Johns Creek Police Officer located the vehicle and suspect.
When confronted by officers, the suspect did not comply with their verbal commands and exited the vehicle. Fearing for his safety and the safety of others, an officer fired one shot striking the suspect.
Officers immediately detained the suspect and rendered first aid until DeKalb Fire/EMS arrived on scene. The suspect was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for emergency care where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave which is in accordance with departmental procedures.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an outside, independent investigation of this incident at the request of the Dunwoody Police Department.
The identity of the deceased suspect and the officer involved are being withheld at this time pending appropriate notifications.
All future inquiries concerning this investigation should be directed to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
