2013 Polar Plunge

 On Saturday February 16th, the Dunwoody Police Department participated in the fourth annual Polar Plunge at Lake Lanier Islands Beach and Water Park. Though it may have been 40 degrees with blistering winds, that didn’t stop over 300 fundraisers from coming out to the big event with their families and friends. In fact the cold weather only added to the thrill of proving just who had the guts to make the plunge.

 

However, there was more to the event than just jumping in the freezing cold lake for charity; there was music from Rock 100.5’s tent, a “dunk an officer” booth; Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders were on hand to sign autographs, and of course there was the costume contest. Awards were also given out to the individual, and to the group that raised the most money.

 

 The Dunwoody Police Department, with the help of our gracious donors, raised $5,946! Overall, we ranked fourth in funds raised amongst teams, and second in police departments. The total amount of funds raised by all participants was over $90,000. This money will help over 23,000 athletes compete in the Georgia Special Olympics.
