The Dunwoody Police Department is partnering with Target for the 30th Annual National Night Out event on August 6th, 2013. "National Night Out is a unique crime and drug prevention program that is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch." This will be the 5th year that the Dunwoody Police have participated in this program. National Night Out now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This year, Target will be handing out Frisbees and raffling off $200 in gifts cards. There will be food served outside in the parking lot between 6PM-8PM. The Dunwoody Police will also have special equipment on display including patrol car, Segway and SWAT vehicle. This would be a great opportunity for citizens to interact with members of the department and also have their photograph or children’s photograph taken with a Dunwoody Police Officer.

The Society of Former FBI Agents, in partnership with the Dunwoody Police Department, is participating in the National Child Identification Program, and will distribute child ID kits at the police department's booth. The kits are free and will allow parents to take and retain their child's fingerprints and a DNA sample, as well as to record detailed identifying information. This is more suitable for children age 4 and up.
