Peeler Road Sidewalk Project

Equestrian Way to Cherring Lane

The City of Dunwoody is adding enhancements to its pedestrian safety network with a new sidewalk along Peeler Road. Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch and Dunwoody City Council Members held a socially-distanced groundbreaking for the project on August 11, 2020.

“This important project furthers the city’s goal of having sidewalks on both sides of all arterial and collector roads,” said Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith. “It provides additional connectivity to Brook Run Park and will include new bike lanes.”

The new sidewalk will run on the south side of Peeler Road between Equestrian Way and just north of Cherring Lane, where it will tie into an existing sidewalk. The project will include drainage improvements, on-street bicycle lanes on both sides of Peeler Road, and marked crosswalks at DeKalb Drive and Cherring Drive that connect to Brook Run Park. Based on public input the plans have been modified from previous renditions to limit the amount of tree clearing that is required. By connecting to the trail  in Brook Run Park, the City will not be installing the sidewalk between Cherring Drive and Cherring Lane. This area will also not be urbanized with curb and gutter while bike lanes will still be added.

This project is being funded by DeKalb County’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). It will cost $1,250,000 and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2021.
