Park Construction

Brook Run Park Phase I Construction

Brook Run Park Phase I Construction

Phase I construction at Brook Run Park includes transformational projects. Construction crews broke ground in April 2019. Work on phase I will continue through the year.

Here are the key components of the $7.58 million project, which was developed with public input and direction from two park master plans:

  • A great lawn with a performance stage, terraced seating, expanded levels of open space, restrooms and an upgraded event pavilion
  • Two multi-sports fields with a concession stand, overlook plaza, improved parking, restrooms, and an added entrance from Barclay Drive.
  • A new covered picnic pavilion area, new restrooms and additional parking
  • Disc golf course

Reeves + Young was chosen to lead the construction project. A team from Lose Design drew up the plans. To view the construction documents, click here.

During construction, important amenities will remain open, and popular events will continue to be held at Brook Run Park.

All Brook Run Park facility rentals will end after Lemonade Days for the remainder of the year.

The Brook Run Playground will remain open and accessible throughout construction. Food Truck Thursdays will also go on as in years past.

The Dog Park and Brook Run Trail will remain open, as well, with the possibility of intermittent closures. The City will post updated information on any closures on the City’s website and social media channels.

November 2019 Construction Update:

  • At the site of the new amphitheater, concrete seating and walls have been poured. The structure for the band shell has been installed. Grading for the overflow parking is 90 percent complete.

Project History

In August 2017, City Council members unanimously approved the Parks and Recreation Master Plan update. The updated Master Plan is based on evaluation of existing park conditions, assessment of future park needs, benchmarking against other local government park systems, and an extensive public involvement process. Contained in the Master Plan update are long-range guidance recommendations on park redevelopment, possible land acquisitions for future park space, staffing options, revenue sources and maintenance plans. Additionally, the Master Plan includes conceptual site plans for each existing park property.

The Master Plan update process was complex and thorough. Now complete, the Master Plan serves as the guiding overview and roadmap for all of the city’s park facilities, parks and recreation offerings and the future park spaces. In May 2018, Lose & Associates presented three initial design options for the Phase I development of Brook Run Park. These designs were provided to the community for feedback and comments and then presented to City Council members at the June meeting. Based on the feedback received from the public and the direction from City Council, the design team updated and revised the park improvement designs for the June Public Meeting.

In June 2018, the city hosted a Public Information Open House Meeting on Brook Run Park Improvement Plan Designs and provided attendees with an opportunity to better understand, ask questions, and submit comments on the newly updated park improvement plans and designs. In December 2018, the Dunwoody City Council unanimously approved the plan and funding for the $7.58 million construction project.
